For the first five years of my life I went to St. John’s Catholic Church, as the majority of my family are Catholics. My mum, my two sisters and I then moved to Life Community Baptist Church shortly after it started, in 1993.
Having had a church background I have never questioned the existence of God. I just accepted what I had been taught in church, at home and in my Catholic primary school, about what Jesus did here on earth 2000 years ago. However, I now realise that being a Christian is about far more than just knowing what went on back then, because He is God of the past, present and future:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” ~ Hebrews 13:8
When I was about eleven I started to think more seriously about God. If I had a problem I would pray about it and trust that He would fix it. In 2001 my sister, who is a Christian, invited me to attend an alpha course. Although I already knew the majority of what was said, I still got a lot out of it because it helped me to see the difference between knowing about God and having a personal relationship with Him. We had an away day, where we looked at the three topics to do with the Holy Spirit, and it was on this day that I decided to give my life to God, at the age of fourteen. Since then, God has been working in my life to build me up spiritually, preparing me for the amazing plans He has for me:
“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” ~ Jeremiah 29:11
The journey’s been tough at times but God’s love, together with the love and support from my church family, has carried me through.
I now know that I can look forward to my future, because of this promise that God has given to me. My goal is to seek God, to live for Him, and to build a deeper relationship with Him every day, and I am certain that every step of the way will be fulfilling.
