After you’ve listened to Don & Val in the online service, you might like to use these questions for personal reflection, or a discussion at a Life Group.

Reflecting on Luke 8:22-25, what storms of life are you facing at the moment, and to whom do you turn when in need of help?

After calming the storm, Jesus asks the disciples, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25). In what tone of voice do you hear Jesus asking this question?

During the talk, Don shared his testimony. What is your journey towards faith in Jesus, and how do you find sharing your testimony with others?

Read these passages, reflecting on how the Holy Spirit helps us in our fears.

Ephesians 5:18b-20 – Being filled daily with the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 34 – God hears our prayers and delivers us from our fears.

Romans 8:26-38 – The Holy Spirit helping us in our weakness.

1 John 4:4 – “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

Val told us the story of King Hezekiah of Judah’s response to an invasion by King Sennacherib of Assyria, saying “with him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles” (2 Chronicles 32:8). On the day, Scripture says the people of Judah gained confidence. How do you response when you remember that the Lord is with you in our daily battles in our everyday lives.

Read “A Bend in the Road”, by Helen Steiner Rice (or listen to Val read it during the service). What came to mind during the poem?

Now pray. Ask the Lord to give you his Holy Spirit, to strengthen your faith in the storm and to give you confidence in the daily battles of life.
