ECO CHURCH
Caring for God’s Earth
Eco Church is a nationwide learning community of churches of all shapes and sizes open to all denominations, helping to support churches in taking definite steps towards caring for God’s earth. Eco Church is run by A Rocha UK, a Christian charity that engages communities in nature conservation, who provide resources, ideas and an accreditation scheme which recognises a church’s commitment to caring for God’s earth. We are a Bronze Award Winner and are currently progressing towards a Silver Award.
Locally, we are part of the Horsham Eco Churches group, and you can find out more about what’s happening through their regular newsletters or Facebook page.
We have a recycling collection point at our Sunday mornings services in the Phoenix, which can take various items, including…
You can find a full list of everything we can recycle on the Sussex Green Living’s recycling page.

Our children created a bug hotel in the nature garden at the Phoenix. An old wooden pallet has been upcycled into the frame and the children are making individual rooms using old bottles filled with twigs, leaves and pine cones.
The Sussex Green Hub is a monthly face-to-face event that offers environmental services like Horsham Repair Cafe, Horsham Community Fridge and a Household Product Refill Shop as well as advice and solutions such as recycling help and energy saving tips. The Green Hub takes place on the last Saturday every month, 10am to 4pm at the Horsham United Reformed Church, RH12 1PT.
Surplus food is collected from local shops and supermarkets, and given away for free at 10am on Tuesday and 1pm on Thursdays from London Road Methodist, and at various locations on Saturday mornings – visit the Community Fridge page for details.
Gus Speth, a leading author and environmental advisor in the US, once said, “I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystems collapse and climate change. I thought that with 30 years of good science, we could address those problems. But I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy… and to deal with those we need a spiritual and cultural transformation and we scientists don’t know how to do that.”
