This week, Ray White is speaking from Daniel 4, where life comes crashing down for King Nebuchadnezzar. He loses all his power, success and wealth, leading to 7 years of insanity. At the end of this time, he turns to the Lord, and is restored as king.

Looking at this chapter, in what ways is King Nebuchadnezzar’s character similar to what we already know about him, and how does his character change throughout this chapter.

In Daniel 4:19, Daniel appears afraid to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. What do you think he is afraid of? Can you think of a time when you’ve been nervous or afraid of speaking the truth?

In Daniel 4:28-30, Nebuchadnezzar is boasting about his great city, built by his own mighty power and for his own glory. What things do you boast about?

The word “pride” occurs in the NIV translation of the Bible 63 times, including Proverbs 16:18, which says “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” Search for the word “pride” in the Bible, either in a concordance, or online by clicking here. What does the Bible say about pride? Is it a good thing or a bad thing (or both!) What is the relationship between pride and humility?

Before it became know as Daniel 4, this passage was first an open letter from King Nebuchadnezzar written to “the nations and people of the every language, who live in all the earth.” Have you ever told others how your character has been shaped by Jesus? What did you say? What would you say if someone asked you tomorrow?

Now pray for your community and your frontlines, so that your words and your actions might be a blessing to through around you, and bring glory to the Lord.
