Christmas 2021
As we travel towards Christmas, we count down the days of Advent, waiting for the day when we joyfully remember the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. In many homes, the days of advent are marked by the opening of doors on an advent calendar and the eating of chocolate hidden within. As we gather on Sundays, we count the days by lighting candles, reminding us of the hope, the peace, the love and the joy that comes through Jesus.
Sunday 28th November – First Sunday in Advent
10:30am – 12 noon at the Phoenix
As we light the first candle of advent, we remember that Jesus is the Light of the World, who came to bring us hope. This week, we explore the passage from John 1:1-17, revealing the deeper mystery that even before Jesus was born, he was with God, and was God.
Sunday 5th December – Second Sunday in Advent
10:30am – 12 noon at the Phoenix
This week, we light a candle as a sign of the peace that Jesus brings – peace with God and peace with one another. We’ll then hear the song that Mary sung from Luke 1:46-55, with lyrics of praise to the Lord for bringing justice for the oppressed, food for the hungry and restoration of the whole of society.
Sunday 12th December – Third Sunday in Advent
10:30am – 12 noon at the Phoenix
With the candle of joy being lit today, we rejoice in the loving relationship that Jesus invites us to experience for ourselves and share with one another. The passage for today is John 15:1-17, with a focus of discovering the joy that we can have in Jesus.
Wednesday 15th December Carol Singing
1:30pm – 3pm
We’ve been invited to sing carols with the members of the Phoenix Stroke Club as part of their Christmas festivities. Space is limited to 10 people, but if you’re free and would like to join in the carolling, then speak to Pete.
Saturday 18th December Churches Together Carol Service
3:30am – 4pm at the Carfax Bandstand
Michael Hogg is leading the Horsham Churches Together open air carol service in the Carfax, with music led by the Slinfold Community Band. Come along, invite friends, and join in the singing. Why not make a day of it and invite your friends for a festive drink in a café afterwards.
Sunday 19th December – Fourth Sunday in Advent
10:30am – 12 noon at the Phoenix
A morning of celebration, as we sing carols, hear the Christmas Story, and enjoy a few festive treats along the way. And yes, we’ll be lighting the candle of love this week too. Saturday 25th December – Christmas Day
10:30am – 11:15am at Brighton Road Baptist Church
On Christmas Day, we are all invited to join with our friends at Brighton Road Baptist for a Christmas celebration service.
Sunday 26th December – Boxing Day Brunch
11am – 1pm
Rather than meeting at the Phoenix, we’ll be heading to the home of one of our members a Boxing Day Brunch, sharing together fellowship and food. If you’d like to come, please contact us.
