As we look towards Easter 2022, we start our new teaching series, “Embracing Justice”. Each week, we’ll explore the threads of justice that flow throughout the many stories of the Bible, discovering how God works with humanity to bring justice, wholeness and salvation to all. As we travel through the series, I pray that the Lord would open our eyes to see the injustices that He sees, challenging us to embrace justice in every aspect of our everyday lives. If you want a ‘deep dive’ into the session themes, then the series is based on the book Embracing Justice by Isabelle Hamley.

Sunday Themes

On Sunday 20th February, we’ll be exploring God’s definition of justice, as we look how the words of Amos the Prophet still challenges us today. Then, we kick off the main series on 6th March:

Justice in the beginning (6th March)
We start by exploring the message on the first page of the Bible that every human is made in the image of God, gifting equality, honour and unity. We then look again at the Adam & Eve’s choice that has been repeated countless times across the globe, a choice to define good and evil for themselves rather than trust God’s definition of good and evil.
Liberating Justice (13th March)
In the life of Moses, we see his journey from privilege to protester, from humble servant to national leader. In this story of liberation, we reveal the God who hears, who sees and who acts to liberate His people from the great injustice of slavery.
Building Communities of Justice (20th March)
Taking a behind the scenes look at the laws of the Old Testament, discovering how God sought to mould the culture of Israel with social justice at the core – compassion for the poor, protection for foreigners, fairness for the oppressed.
Justice as Encounter (27th March)
With the Son of God living as a human, Jesus entered a world of injustice in the hands of political power, military might and religion rulers. But as we follow a day in the life of Jesus, we’ll discover he was able to change the system by becoming part of the system.
Justice in the Shape of a Cross (3rd April)
Jesus redefines our idea of justice through his life, his crucifixion, his death and his resurrection. Standing at the cross once more, we discover that mercy and grace are central to justice shaped in the character of God.
Do This in Memory of Me (10th April)
Jesus asked us to remember him in the midst of a shared, communal meal, through which we confess our part in the injustice of the world, seek reconciliation with one another, and demonstrate our unity in community.

What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
