Created for the 2024 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, these self-guided prayer walks lead you around Horsham town centre. There are four to choose from, each starting and finishing at the Carfax Bandstand.

Causeway / Forum (0.8 miles)

From the Carfax Bandstand, walk past the bus stops, praying for those who work in the transport sector, and for those who rely on their services.
Heading into the Market Square, pray for those who work in the cafes and restaurants in Horsham.
Go past the Old Town Hall (Bills) and walk down the Causeway. As you pass by the Horsham Museum, reflect on Lamentations 3:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (NRSV)
When you reach St Mary’s Church, take the right-hand path through the graveyard, thinking about the words carved into the paving stones you are walking on.
As you reach the end of the path in the graveyard, pause outside St Mary’s Primary School and pray for those who teach, work and learn in schools. Pray also for the “Together in Horsham” project run by Fegans and supported by Horsham Churches Together, offering counselling to children and young people in schools.
Take the first right into the Garden of Remembrance (if you’ve crossed the bridge, you’ve gone too far). As you walk with the stream on your left, pray for those whose lives have been and continue to be affected by war and conflict.
As you exit the Garden of Remembrance, turn right and follow the path past Sainsbury’s Car Park, heading towards the Forum. As you see the apartments in front of you, pray for all those who call Horsham town centre their home.
As you enter the large paved area of the Forum, pause for a while near Esquires coffee shop, and pray “Lord, open my eyes to see what you see”.
When you’re ready, take the walkway outside Go Outdoors, cross the road at the pelican crossing, and continue straight ahead towards West Street.
Turn right into West Street, and pray for those working in retail.
When you reach Waterstones, turn left towards the Carfax, then head back to the bandstand.

East Street / Piries Place (0.4 miles)

From the Carfax Bandstand, walk to the war memorial, and pause for a moment to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Pray for those in our world affected by war and conflict, and for the work of Horsham Refugee Support Group.
Continue walking, and just before you reach the large Parasols outside Panino, stop by the wooden stocks, and pray for those who work in today’s justice system.
Cross the road outside Cook and follow the road in the direction of Waterstones.
At Waterstones, turn left into Middle Street. As you walk along Middle Street, pray for those who work in the shops on this street.
Continue walking in the same direction, entering East Street. This street is full of flavours from around the world, so every time you see a restaurant that makes you think of another country, pause and pray for the people of that region.
At the end of East Street, turn left, then left again before the RSPCA, heading towards Piries Place Car Park. Pray for those who work for the many charities that support people living in Horsham.
Turn left before you reach the car park, walk towards Starbucks and head into Piries Place.
Pause for a while next to the statue of William Pierre and his donkey, and pray “Lord, open my eyes to see what you see”.
Whilst outside the Premier Inn, pray for those travelling and visiting Horsham.
Head towards the Everyman Cinema and pray for those who work in the film industry and the media. Do you have a story to tell?
When you’re ready, walk through the passageway to the right of the M-bar, cross over the road, and return to the Carfax Bandstand.

Parkside / Park (0.7 miles)

From the Carfax Bandstand, walk along the pavement past Crates, and follow the path up the slope towards the St Mark’s Spire.
As you walk past the offices on the right, pray for those who work in the insurance industry and for those who are affected by accidents and injuries at this time.
When you reach the offices of Horsham District Council, stop and pray for your local councillor, and for all those who work in the many departments of the council.
Continue along the pavement on North Street, pausing opposite the Capitol Theatre to pray for those who work in the performing arts. Do you have a story to tell?
Before you move on, pray for those who work in NHS New Park House, and for those who turn to them for support with their mental health.
Take the path to the left of the car park, heading into the Sensory Garden at the rear of Park House. Pray for those visiting the Registry Office to register births, marriages and deaths. Also pray for the Horsham Debt Advisory Service and their clients, who have an office here.
Exit the garden with Park House behind you, walking down the tree-lined avenue towards the pond. Take time to give thanks for God’s creation and pray for the work of Horsham Eco Churches.
When you reach the big junction by the pond, pause for a while, look around and pray “Lord, open my eyes to see what you see”
When you’re ready, begin heading back towards the town centre using the path past the REC Rink (based on the route, this is second left)
As you pass Park Surgery, pray for all those who work in your doctor’s surgery and in Horsham Hospital, and for those in their care.
As you walk through the underpass under Albion Way, pray for those struggling to buy the food they need and pray for the work of the Horsham Matters.
After heading up the steps of the underpass, turn right towards the Carfax and then head towards the bandstand.

Swan Walk / West Street (0.6 miles)

From the Carfax Bandstand, head past the war memorial towards the Swan Walk shopping centre. As you do, pray for the market traders who come here every Thursday and Saturday.
Enter the Swan Walk and as you walk past the shops, pray for those who work in retail.
As you reach the large statue of the flying swans, spend a moment praying for local artists and those who work in creative industries.
Walk past Muffin Break, then turn right when you reach the large Swan Walk logo on the floor outside Superdrug.
As you walk this next section, think about the places around the world where the goods on sale here were manufactured, praying for those who work in the factories, shipping and delivery.
As you reach the former Wilko store at this end of Swan Walk, pray for those who have lost their jobs through redundancies, here and elsewhere.
The Horsham Wellbeing Hub is located at this corner of Swan Walk – pray for the staff and those being helped towards a healthier lifestyle.
Walk through the exit doors, and head down the stairs into West Street, then turn right into the Bishopric.
Pause by the ring of benches, look around and pray “Lord, open my eyes to see what you see”. Take time to look in each of the four directions, and as you see the stream and the waterfall, pray for revival to burst in Horsham forth like streams of living water.
Start heading back along West Street towards the Carfax – Poundland is one of the first shops you should be passing). Along the way, pray for the work of Horsham Matters as you pass their Love It Again shop.
As you walk by the many phone shops, reflect upon how often we look at our phones and how often we think of God – is Jesus trying to message you right now?
When you reach the end of West Street, pause outside Lloyds and pray for those who work in the banking and finance sector. Think of those who are struggling financially from the cost of living crisis.
Turn left, heading past Waterstones, crossing the road at Cook, then walk through the Carfax to the bandstand.
