Questions for Reflection

Here are some things to think about this week. You may like to reflect on these things by yourself, or in a Life Group.

Watch Luke 24:13-25 from The Lumo Project or read Luke 24:13-35 in the Bible.

Reflect on the journeys you’ve made during the last week. Where did you go? How did you travel? Was anyone with you? What did you talk or think about? What was your mood?

Reflect on those journeys again. Did you encounter something of Jesus on those journeys or acknowledge that the Holy Spirit was with you? Would it have changed the journey if you did?

On their journey with their fellow travelled (who, unbeknown to them, was Jesus), the disciples explored passages from Scripture that speak of the Messiah. What Old Testament passages do you know of that speaks of the Messiah? Take some time to explore these passages. To help with this and discover other passages, you might like to watch the Bible Project’s Messiah video, or read 55 Old Testament Prophecies about Jesus from the Jesus Film Project.

In what ways might these passages have given hope to those travellers on the journey to Emmaus?

What is God saying to you through them today?

The two disciples offered hospitality to their fellow traveller, whom they had only just met. Who would you like to share a meal with, and why? Think historic figure, famous person or person of influence. Also think of someone you know from your frontlines, who you’ve never shared a meal with.

When you share meals with other believers, in what ways could you transform it into an encounter with Jesus?

Pray for those you are journeying through life with in the week ahead.
